Voice+

Avert has supported the Global Network of People Living with HIV on its Voice+ project since 2020. Voice+ is a smartphone app and WhatsApp chatbot designed to support communications between networks of people living with HIV – providing information on Covid-19 and HIV, community forums, and a way for networks to report on problems and concerns in their locality that in turn can be used to support advocacy and decision-making.

Avert has been a content development partner for the Voice+ app and chatbot, and provided broader M+E and strategy support to the project.

Promoting PrEP awareness in Southern Africa

Supported by Mercury Phoenix Trust, during 2021-22 Avert worked with young women and men in Southern Africa to co-create a social media campaign promoting awareness, interest, support and demand for pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) among young people in the region. As a prevention tool that is within young women’s own control, PrEP offers huge opportunities to protect this group from HIV infection.

Working with user groups of young women and men throughout the project, the materials developed encouraged young women to access and use PrEP, and changed young men’s attitudes so they are supportive of women’s PrEP use. The campaign reached over 2.18 million people across the region.

Cricket without boundaries

At the end of 2019, Avert started a new a project with Cricket without Boundaries addressing HIV myths and stigma. Using cricket as a platform for health education and social change across five African countries, the collaboration created a series of resources on HIV and sexual health designed to be used by coaches, peer educators and volunteers in game play with young people in Uganda, Kenya, Cameroon, Malawi and Rwanda.

They’re a great way to get conversations started about HIV - we’ve used the resources with thousands of children now and they’ve definitely helped our coaches make sure that the right messages are being taken away from the session.

WHO

From May 2018 to December 2019 Avert supported the World Health Organization (WHO) HIV and Hepatitis department on its news and newsletter communications.

Avert was contracted to provide tailored support to the department on its news and newsletter outputs covering HIV and hepatitis, published on the WHO website and through its regular stakeholder newsletters.

Hornet

Throughout 2018 and 2019 we joined forces with Hornet, one of the world’s premier gay social networking platforms, to develop a series of targeted information campaigns for gay and bisexual men in the US, UK, and Canada.

Through the partnership we created and promoted a series of four videos to guide men through everything they need to know about sexual health and HIV.
