My girlfriend and I had been together for 5 months, when she said she wanted to go for an HIV test. I had never had a test before but she had, so I was a bit nervous to go. We had had sex without a  condom before, which I know you’re not supposed to do in case you get HIV. We went to get tested but in separate rooms. We were both negative. So my message is to go and get tested because it’s always better to know.

If you are starting a new relationship or have had sex without a condom then it’s a good idea to go and get an HIV test. Some people find going with their partners helps them to feel more at ease, either way it is always better to know, so you can start your new relationship feeling more relaxed. See our page to learn more about HIV testing.
