In September 2015, the WHO released new guidelines recommending lifelong antiretroviral treatment for all pregnant and breastfeeding women living with HIV.

Explanation of Option B+ HIV treatment for pregnant and breastfeeding women

The 2015 WHO guidelines recommend Option B+ where lifelong antiretroviral treatment is provided to all pregnant and breastfeeding women living with HIV. Treatment should be maintained after delivery and completion of breastfeeding and continued for the rest of a woman's life.
