United Kingdom HIV & AIDS Statistics by Age
The latest statistics on AIDS & HIV in the UK were published in March 2008 by the Health Protection Agency.1
The table below shows that 82% of all HIV diagnoses have been in people aged 20-44 years old. In the heterosexual transmission group, women and girls have on average been diagnosed at a younger age than men and boys - 43% of females were under 30 years old compared to 21% of males.
It should be noted that the age group at HIV diagnosis is not necessarily the same as the age group at the time when HIV infection was acquired.
On this page the term 'exposure category' refers to the most probable route of transmission of HIV infection.
