HIV affects the Caribbean more than any other region in the world, excluding sub-Saharan Africa. Overall, the region is making large strides in addressing the epidemic, with access to life-saving treatment reaching almost universal levels.

Stigma, discrimination and criminalisation, however, play a leading role in driving the epidemics of many Caribbean countries, and is strongly associated with a lack of HIV prevention services and high prevalence levels among certain groups.
