back to top RADAR study sheds light on healthcare in rural South Africa
Over the last three and a half
years, AVERT has supported a research project entitled the
‘Care in the Home Study’ (CHoS); an
initiative that set out to analyse the quality of care provided in
the home in rural South Africa, in the context of HIV and AIDS.
The study was undertaken by the Rural AIDS and Development Action Research Programme (RADAR), affiliated to the University of Witwatersrand (Wits), in Bushbuckridge Municipality, Mpumalanga province.
Tackling the challenges of healthcare in rural settings relies on communication and collaboration between all stakeholders. Last week, AVERT attended a conference organised by RADAR, entitled ‘Meeting Challenges of Healthcare in Rural South Africa Through Care in the Home’, at Wits Rural Facility, Mpumalanga province.
The conference created a platform for key local and national stakeholders from government, NGOs, academia and home-based care organisations to gather together and have a meaningful discussion on the translation of research outputs into policy and implementation.
Results from RADAR's CHoS project were presented, highlighting key issues that impact on the quality of home-based care for people living with HIV. For more about the RADAR CHoS project, study results, as well as the wider conference outcomes, read AVERT's article here.
