Clubs and societies

back to top Are you a member of a club or society?

Your club or society may not have a direct link to HIV and AIDS prevention but you can still help to fundraise for AIDS. Bring the members of your club or society together and do something for AVERT. We can provide you with all the resources and ideas you might need.

If you're interested in setting up a fundraising event or activity for AVERT we'll provide you with fantastic support and materials.
All of the pages on AVERT.org are available to print and distribute and our website also contains videos and games on HIV/AIDS and sexual health.
AVERT would also be pleased to feature any event you hold on our behalf on our Facebook page and fundraising website, so please let us know if you have an idea in mind!
To find out more about how to plan and organise a fundraiser, download our community fundraising guide which features all the information you might need.

back to top Ways you could help

Sports Societies

HIV and AIDS impact upon so many aspects of global development. It affects politics, economics, human geography, medicine...so on that note, why not organise a cross-subject/faculty sports day? Get as many faculties or colleges to take part as you can and let the games begin. Use JustGiving.com to set up a 'team page' which allows you to see which team is 'winning' the most donations. All money donated on those pages goes directly to AVERT.

English Society/Poetry or Writing Soc

HIV and AIDS is affected by the whole spectrum of global development and sexual health, stigma and discrimination. You could find enough inspiration to hold a HIV/AIDS themed poetry slam or writing competition.

Afro-Carribbean Society (ACS) or International Society

Through the AVERT community programme, donations are used to sponsor AIDS projects in Africa that are run and organised by local communities. Your fundraising event would directly benefit people living in sub-Saharan Africa who are dealing with the effects of AIDS. From a sponsored run to a fashion show, give it a go for AVERT.

Debating society

We all know that to make a good argument you need to be in possession of the facts. AVERT.org is the accurate, impartial HIV/AIDS site on the internet that reaches over 30 million people a year. Debate HIV/AIDS issues discussed on our site: from universal access to treatment, to whether people should be prosecuted for transmitting HIV- you could really get people talking about HIV and AIDS and highlight the facts.

Medical society

HIV and AIDS represent one of the biggest medical challenges of our time. Our site contains the latest in HIV science as well as media that makes complicated information more accessible. We need your fundraising support to maintain this high quality information and as future medics, we'd love it if your society would consider helping us to raise awareness of HIV and AIDS issues.

Christian Union

Our Sisonke project in South Africa helps people living with and affected by HIV and AIDS and is supported by the local Diocese. Your goodwill and support for their prevention work would be incredibly valuable as Sisonke looks to provide HIV/AIDS services to even more people. You can also visit our pages on church fundraising for more ideas.

Human Rights

Bid for people's services at a human auction...hold your own red party...or anything else you have in mind. If you'd like to hold an event and raise some money and awareness of HIV/AIDS issues, we've got information on HIV/AIDS that is free to distribute on AVERT.org and the collection tins, badges and t-shirts ready to send by post!

LGBT

We work to ensure that our website contains pages of LGBT information and support for people who are concerned about sexual health. We also receive hundreds of emails from people who have come out and want to share their story. Holding a fundraising event is a great way to ensure we can continue to do this. If you have a sexual health week or LGBT event in your area, AVERT can provide resources as well as HIV/AIDS information and AVERT flyers to help you raise awareness of the issues. We'd love to hear from you.

Women's or Feminist Society:

Some of our projects focus specifically on how the epidemic affect women in society, for example, by improving access to prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV. If you're planning an event in your society, from a debate to a pub crawl, please consider asking society members to donate to AVERT. You might also be interested in our women and HIV page.
