Basketball star Earvin "Magic" Johnson speaking in Las Vegas in April 2006. Magic Johnson announced he was HIV positive in November 1991. In 1996 he retired from professional basketball to devote himself to business and charity work. Johnson's disclosure of his HIV positive status is seen as a major event in the history of AIDS in America and he is one of the world's best known AIDS activists.
