ABOUT AVERT, AVERTing AIDS and HIV
What is AVERT?
AVERT is an international HIV and AIDS charity based in the UK, working to AVERT HIV and AIDS worldwide.
AVERT has HIV and AIDS projects in countries where there is a particularly high rate of infection, such as the countries of southern Africa, or where there is a rapidly increasing rate of infection such as in India.
We also take AIDS education and information to people in almost every country in the world through our web site, www.avert.org, the world's most popular AIDS website.
AVERT's project work in southern Africa and India
Southern Africa
Some areas of southern Africa have an alarmingly high rate of HIV infection, with hundreds of thousands of people dying from AIDS. AVERT's projects are concentrating on these areas not only to prevent new infections, but also to help those who are already directly affected by HIV and AIDS. A number of our projects, such as the Sisonke project, have a strong focus on the community and on helping people to help themselves.
AVERT has a number of projects in South Africa, and Malawi
India
AVERT also works with people affected by HIV and AIDS in India. Our projects in Tamil Nadu draw on peer education in order to raise awareness and have set up a mobile medical units to increase access to testing and treatment.
